Margaret McdDermott, vice-president, called the meeting to order. Kathy Kelley led the opening prayer.
Discussion about whether coordinating committee minutes are on web site. They will be in future. As of now, they are emailed to members of coordinating team and mailed to anyone without email.

Brian has been out of office due to illness but is now working full schedule. OYM needs secretary. New associate director is Randy Adams.
Current project: ethics and crisis management is part of Basic YM certification. The office is putting together a YM handout, with guidelines, hiring process, How to deal with different situations,etc. After meeting with Robert Scarmado, legal counsel, the binder with be submitted for Bishop’s approval. One new part of the hiring process will be an interview with the Diocesan Director before the Pastor does final hiring. The interview will identify “areas of growth” for the prospective hire. The Diocese is looking at tools for assessment from other dioceses. There will be a requirement for Youth Minister to go through the Basic certification process as a condition for hiring and to have in place a plan for continuing formation. The formation program is currently on an upswing. Certain exemptions and equivalencies are built into the program. Nov. 13-16, 2003 the national Youth Conference will be in Houston at Reliant Park. Expecting approximately 30,000. It is also possible that Houston will be the site for 2005.c. NPCD/NCEA Kathy Kelley
The Department of Religious Education is currently in a search process for a new executive director as Robert Colbert is leaving. Brochures for the St. Louis Conference should be delivered in the next 2 weeks. Some changes from last year: We will pick up nametags on site. Nanette & Lucille are in charge of planning entertainment
There will be a “white Paper” with speakers responding to some issues. Examples Bishop Wilton Gregory on “Catholicism and American Culture, Steinflet on Catholic Identity and the Public Forum, TBA Catholic Educational Leadership. Panel of responders will be Greeley & McGreevy, Groome & Alvaré, Walsh and Hennessey. The executive committee of NPCD was consulted on Adult Catechism which could be helpful for young adults, returnees, RCIA. Themes for Catechetical Sunday 2003 Sowers of God’s Peace
2004-5 Stewards of God’s Wealth, 2006-7 Christ as Life. Materials will be resource for the entire year. Mickey McGrath will provide artwork. The National Catechetical Directory went back to committee. The Draft should be ready Jan 2003 with June 2003 approval by Bishops
